Nunatsiavut Pin — St. John’s 2025 Canada Games

2025 · Enamel pin — design · 1.4 in

The pin is roughly the size and shape of a fish’s heart, drawn from a childhood memory — my grandfather teaching me to clean a fish and passing me its heart, symbolizing the transfer of knowledge and tradition. The design carries the Qulliq, emblematic of Inuit women’s strength and nurturance, aligned with the torch of the Canada Games; a child in their mother’s amauti, for the communal upbringing that characterizes our culture; a zigzag line tracing the coordinates of Nain, our most northern community; and a silhouette that echoes the shape of the Nunatsiavut land claims area. The colours are drawn from artwork by artists from each of the five Nunatsiavut communities.
